Although the Society has been going since 1897, we are very keen to promote interest in dialect to future generations. If schools or individuals wish to download and photocopy material from our site, they are welcome to do so.
Please look elsewhere on our site, too. You can SEE dialect written or, by following one of our links, actually HEAR it spoken.
You also might want to join in with one or more of our Research projects, maybe trying them out on your friends!
There are two main sections to this part of the YDS website; Language Background and Language Fun.
'Language Background' gives the fascinating story of how English developed and grew in these islands and how Yorkshire dialect fits in to the wider story.
'Fun' has a number of dialect quizzes and a link to a dialect ‘translator’. Give them a try!
