Yorkshire Dialect Society Events

Please note that an entrance fee of £3 per person will be charged at all meetings. Newcomers always welcome. All meetings to start at 2 p.m unless otherwise stated.

Dec12Yorkshire Entertainment (Oct, Nov, Dec Schedule)

YDS Council member and raconteur extraordinaire, Rod Dimbleby, is giving a series of entertaining and lively talks at various venues over the coming months – these constitute, in Rod’s words, “a mixture of entertainment and talk about Yorkshire dialect and stories and poems in dialect”. The schedule for October, November and December is as follows, including  hosting organisation and venue details: 


10 October Cygnet Hospital, Wyke  10-12.00 am
14 October  Halifax Antiques Society, Albany Club, Clare Road, HX1 2JP   7.30-8.30pm
16 October Ecclehill Men’s Forum, Bolton Methodist Church, Bolton Road, Bradford BD2 4LB  10-11.30am
28 October Osset Historical Society, Trinity Church Church Street, Ossett, WF5 9DW  7.30-8.30pm
14 November  Cygnet Hospital, Wyke   10-12.00 am
21 November   Bradford Macular Support Group, The Sensory Needs Centre, 124 Morley Street, Bradford, BD7 1BB   2-3.00pm
29 November   Shaggy Dog Storytellers, The Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge, HX7 6LU    8-10pm
30 November  St Peter’s Church, Moorhead Lane, Saltaire   2-4pm
5 December   Brighouse NSPCC Luncheon Club, Crow Nest Park Golf Club, Hove Edge, HD6 2LN  11-2.30
12 December  Cygnet Hospital, Wyke   10-12.00 am

YDS Christmas Crack 2019 – An afternoon of light-hearted dialect entertainment provided by ourselves

This year’s Christmas Crack will be held on 14th December (1400 onwards)  at the Bar Convent,  17 Blossom St, York YO24 1AQ, a few minutes walk from York railway station

Please note that those wishing to eat beforehand should arrive at 1300 – please purchase your food in the cafe and take it upstairs to the meeting room, where tea / coffee will also be available
