Free dialect event at the Dialect Day at University of Leeds with original Survey of English Dialects fieldworker Q&A and film launch

This is a very late addition to the ‘Events’ calendar which promises, nevertheless, to be  an informative and interesting presentation for all interested in dialect and dialect study  – an overview of the event has been provided by the organiser (following) and further details are provided via the links below:

I am writing to invite you to a special event on dialect at the University of Leeds on Saturday 15th September (1.30pm-4.30pm) as part of the Dialect and Heritage: The State of the Nation project and the Heritage Open Days festival.
We are delighted to announce that original Survey of English Dialects (SED) fieldworker Donald R. Sykes will be in attendance and will be answering questions at 2pm and 3pm following the launch screening of a new short film where he gives fascinating insights into the Survey. We are also launching a second short film where Michael V. Barry, another original SED fieldworker, recollects his memories of conducting and editing the Survey.
We will also have highlights from the Leeds Archive of Vernacular Culture collection on display and opportunities for attendees to contribute their own dialect words to the Dialect and Heritage project.
The event is free and there is no need to book. For more information on getting to the event, please visit https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/visiting/event/food-for-thought.dialect-discovery-day
